The phrase “wow” is not enough to scratch the surface describing the action between the Raiders and Valpo. Betsy Adams (VU) was on crutches due to an injury earlier in the week, but scored 22 on the Raiders the first game in Indiana. Who would step up for the Crusaders? It would be Whitney Farris, dropping 22 points and collecting 10 rebounds. However, that wouldn’t be enough to climb out of the hole. The Raiders were led by senior Kanisha Ward, who made 16 points (4 three-pointers) and was rarely guarded by the Crusaders.

Next game for the Raiders is this Saturday at 3:00, against Butler.

The four seniors left the Nutter Center with a bang and a thrashing of the Detroit Titans. While UDM maintained the ball fairly well throughout the game, the free throw portion was terrible as the Titans only made 13 out of 27.  Thomas, Cooperwood, and Brown closed out their home careers, scoring double digits.  Gardner, the 4th senior, could only watch as another injury sidelined the Homewood, Alabama native. Senior Night was a treat for the fans, as WSU now closes out the season on the road.

This was an important win for the Raiders, as Wright State now has sole possession of 2nd place behind Butler. On a night that saw the return of the Viking mascot and a crowd of 7,923 that mostly wore white, Vaughn Duggins chipped in 20 points to help stop Green Bay, along with N’Gai Evans chipping in 18. In the beginning, it was all UWGB leading 16-7. That all changed before the halfway point of the first half. In the end, WSU was too much for the Phoenix, despite Green Bay making all eleven free throws.

The last home game of the season is against Detroit. Can the Raiders sweep a talented Detroit Titan team? Tune in Wednesday at 7:00, as the Raiders take on UDM.

For the first time since 1996, the Raiders swept the regular season sets against Milwaukee. The Panthers mishandled the ball 25 times, which turned into 23 points for Wright State. UWM also allowed 42 points in the second half. LaShawna Thomas scored 20 points for the eighth time in her career, and the second time this season.

Next game for the Lady Raiders is Saturday at 6:00 against the Green Bay Phoenix.

As the Raiders and Ramblers went back and forth for a while, the sunset scene of the second half saw the Raiders pull away for good. A three pointer by Loyola’s Marcus Thomas at 6:01 capped all the scoring for the Ramblers and allowed Wright State to score the rest. Namely, Cory Cooperwood scored eight straight points, finishing with 19 points and twelve boards. WSU outscored Loyola 22-3 the rest of the game. The Raiders have won three straight Horizon League games for the first time this season and are now in a three way tie with Green Bay and Detroit, which have to make a visit to the Nutter Center later in the season.

While the Penguins took it to the Raiders in the beginning, the Raiders went into the locker room with a seven point lead. Then, a more dominant team emerged on the court in the second half, as Youngstown State scored only nine points and shot 10 percent. With the 31 total turnovers by YSU, the Raiders turned those into 32 points. Ta-myra Davis scored 18 points and pulled 10 rebounds against her former team. With two straight wins, that puts Wright State in a tie for eighth place with Valparaiso and keeps YSU winless.

Next game for the women is Thursday versus Milwaukee at 7:00.

The Lady Raiders defeated the Vikings 60-58 on a last second shot by Thomas. It was a back and forth game between the two schools. The Vikings bench were kept quiet by the solid showing of the Lady Raiders. The next challenge for the Raiders is the Youngstown State Penguins, a winless basketball team with only seven players playing against Detroit. Can the Lady Raiders build on this? Tune in Saturday!

Wright State finished off a regular season series with the UIC Flames by trumping the visitors with five Raiders scoring in double figures. The Flames only shot 20% from the field and only snagged 20 rebounds, whereas the Raiders grabbed 48 rebounds and shot a cool 51%. The Raiders now wait for Saturday to take on Loyola.

For the first time in the nine-game series, the Purdue Boilermakers defeated the Wright State Raiders. After tying on Friday, Purdue had a 3-1 going into the Third Period. Both teams chipped in another goal in the third and also cleaned their act up, as the PA system sounded the threat of being ejected from the game if another fight broke out.  A physical hockey game does not even begin to describe today’s game.

The Raiders had a two game unbeaten streak coming into Saturday’s game. The hockey team will now take on Ferris State in Michigan. Last home game is February 5th against the Toledo Rockets.
